When Honda debuted the new Civic Si earlier this year, the company said it will cost in the mid-$20,000 range. We took that to mean that it'd start at $25,000, but it'll actually be a little bit more attainable. For both the Civic Si sedan and coupe the base price is $23,900, and fitting summer tires adds $200 to the cost.

That makes the Civic Si a bit of a performance bargain, undercutting the price of hot hatches like the Ford Focus ST and the Volkswagen Golf GTI. Really, the Si's closest rival is the $21,000 Ford Fiesta ST, which offers similar horsepower, but in a smaller hatchback package. Unfortunately, Honda doesn't have any plans to offer a Civic Si hatch.

Honda also announced that both the Civic Si sedan and coupe have a curb weight of around 2900 lbs, which is respectably light. The Si's new 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, which pumps out 205 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque, should be more than enough to push that weight around. Of course, the Civic Si will be sold with a six-speed manual only. Just as it should be.

At $24,000, the Si is nicely equipped too. It comes adaptive dampers standard, a limited-slip differential on the front axle, and some nice interior goodies, like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

We should be getting behind the wheel of the Si soon, but already, it sounds promising. And a sub-$25,000 base price isn't too bad either.
